ORGANIZE A FUNDRAISER

Would you like to organise a fundraiser to support the Owneh SOLIDARITY FUND? Maybe you want to organise an art auction or commit 20% of event tickets to The Owneh Initiative?

Here are some guidelines to help you get started:

We greatly appreciate all acts of solidarity, and ask that you follow these guidelines so that the process of fundraising is streamlined and verifiable.

This ensures all fundraising efforts are in line with The Owneh Initiative’s values and principles, and will help us keep track of the multiple fundraising efforts by our arts and cultural allies globally. It also protects your fundraising efforts and donors.

a. You do have an idea for a fundraiser? Please write to us at [email protected] to propose your idea. All fundraising activities must obtain The Owneh Initiative’s written permission before proceeding.

b. All fundraising activities must abide by the Owneh Principles.

c. The organiser must be transparent with The Owneh Initiative, and donors, about the actual percentage of funds raised which will be donated directly to The Owneh Initiative.

d. The organiser must commit to ethical practices when fundraising, including but not limited to compensating artists for their labour where required. If donors are promised an item or activity in return for their donation, these obligations must be fulfilled.

e. All approved campaigns must mention “Endorsed by The Owneh Initiative” in their publicity material.

HOW WILL THESE FUNDS BE USED?

The Owneh Initiative is new but members of Owneh have been, for many years, questioning the constricting nature of international funding models on which Palestinian cultural institutions have had to depend.

The Owneh Initiative is accepting support from entities and individuals who do not participate in Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.

The Owneh Initiative is urgently raising funds for two main purposes at the moment:

+ Palestinian arts and culture organizations, ensuring their continued operations according to real on-the-ground needs without having to compromise their values and vision to comply with Western donors’ short-sightedness and politically motivated, often arbitrary, metrics.

+ Psychosocial support workshops organized by Palestinian civil society organizations, using arts as a means of strengthening and healing Palestinian children and adults who undergo trauma caused by the occupation on a daily basis. These workshops address immediate psychological needs as well as long-term healing and empowerment by helping participants reclaim and reconnect with their culture and identity which are facing constant threats of erasure.
